Meet Our Staff

We are one human (Anna), one dog (Ruby), and all of the spirits that haunt our basement. Wicked Basement Books is the result of Anna’s lifelong love of horror, serious thrifting passion, and unshakeable belief that there is no better way to consume horror in any form than in a basement.

Sustainability

We strive to offer you a sustainable shopping experience from beginning to end. We believe that secondhand does not mean second-rate. In fact, we think it’s a shame that many books only get read once. All of our books are pre-loved or publisher’s overstock, our gifts are sourced from independent artists, and our packaging is made out of recycled materials. All operations are run out of a basement in a very old (likely haunted) house.

FAQs

  • The vast majority of our secondhand books are sourced from intentional and enthusiastic thrifting adventures. A few books are donated directly from Anna's bookshelves.

  • Along with secondhand books, we also sell publisher's overstock! Publisher's overstock is exactly what it sounds like, and it happens when publishers print more books that can be sold. The bad news is, if books can't be sold, they're destroyed. The good news is, booksellers can buy the overstock and sell the books to you for a great price! This means you'll get a recently released book that's never been read for an incredible price. You may notice a discreet marking on the bottom or top of the book, as well as some minor wear and tear from transport.

  • Books are shipped via Media Mail. All other items are shipped via USPS Ground Advantage.

  • Since all books are secondhand, each book is divided into one of three categories: Excellent, Good, and Well-loved. Books in excellent condition are in like new condition with minimal signs of wear and tear. Books in good condition have some signs of wear and tear (and possible markings), but are in overall great shape. Well-loved books have significant signs of wear and tear, but are still perfectly readable and ready to take on another life! You can find the condition of the book in the bottom left of the book's description page. You can also scroll through the photos of each book to get a visual idea for yourself.
